Internet marketing is a field of marketing using the Internet and Web technology to promote Web sites, goods, and services. There are many forms of Internet marketing, such as Pay Per Click (PPC) advertisements, contextual ads, banner ads (CPM), market via e-mail, mailing lists, newsletters, and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), online affiliates and networking, link exchanges, content provision, and more. Also generally referred to as Web marketing, Internet advertising, Web advertising.
- Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
Search Engine Marketing is a field of Internet marketing specialized in promoting Web sites on search engines.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search engine optimization is the practice of optimizing a Web site for higher search engine rankings. Techniques involve URL manipulation, content emphasizing key words and phrases, linking, page structure, navigation, and many other techniques and tricks both white hat and black hat.
- Search Engine Results Page (SERP)
A page of results from a search engine. Ranking on lower pages yields better performance, with page one being the best. Ranking often referred to as SERP rank, SERP results, SERP position, and SERP performance.
- Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is the process of person-to-person promotion. Users tell users, who tell other users, who tell yet more users, sometimes leading to very rapid and exponential growth of a of a Web site, product, service, or event.
